Installing the Tiger Eye Helmet Mount Bike Mirror

Our mirror should fit almost any helmet. The mirror should be placed in the northwest corner of the helmet; not too far in front or it will block forward vision, and not too far back or you will have to look too hard to the left to see it.

When attaching the mirror to the helmet the rubber-coated U portion of the mirror that slides onto the edge of a helmet has been squeezed almost closed by us, so you can gently open just enough to get it started on the edge of the helmet, then push it on the rest of the way. This will ensure a tight attachment to the helmet; half of the U should be behind the brow pad and the other half on the outside of the helmet.

Since every helmet is different, the final adjustment requires some bending of the spoke to get the mirror where it needs to be on a particular helmet. Don't be afraid to bend it, it's a bike spoke and it won't break from bending it. Place your left finger in your left ear and bend the spoke until you can see your finger. This will require you to take the helmet on and off a few times and hold the mirror onto the helmet while you are bending it and testing its position. You don't want to bend the spoke while the mirror is on the helmet because it could damage the foam in the helmet.  Once you have that position set turn your head slightly to the left to see directly behind you.

Do not try to change the vertical angle of the mirror by holding it and bending the spoke as the mirror will either break or delaminate.  The best way to change the mirror angle is to use a pair of pliers and bend the spoke at the joint above the mirror.

It is going to take a few attempts to dial in the exact view for you.   If you see too much of you and not enough road over your shoulder, bend the horizontal arm where it attaches to the helmet, away from the helmet.

The glasses mount mirrors can also be bent to adjust to different glasses arms by opening or tightening the mounting points.

If the mirror seems loose, remember it is mounted to a threaded bicycle spoke so all you need to do is spin the mirror a turn or two and the threads will find new traction. Don't overtighten or you could cause the mirror to delaminate from the resin.

We have an instructional video for installing our mirrors. This is an easy process, and the cool thing is once it is adjusted it will stay in that position.

If you really get stuck or confused, we can arrange for a Zoom call and you can show us the problem.  Just send an email to tm@teamtigereye.com and we will make arrangements.

Care

Beware of extreme cold

We have learned that big swings in temperature from warm to below freezing will cause the resin of the Tiger Eye to shrink and this action has the potential to damage the mirror.  We recommend that you store your Tiger Eye indoors if you live where  subfreezing temperatures are expected.

Avoid Excessive or prolonged moisture

In order the delivery the best view possible our glass mirrors have a reflective backing that can discolor if the mirror remains wet.  You can protect your investment by not submerging it for cleaning and use glass cleaner sparingly.
